Internet/World Wide Web

     The internet plays a major role in the lives on billions of people across the globe daily. The internet is a global network of billions of computers and other electronic devices. It is used for to navigate though various form of communication, education, employment, and so much more. Two computer scientists, Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn are "credited with inventing the internet communication protocols we use today and the system referred to as the internet" (britannica.com). Research teams at UCLA and Stanford created long-distance networking computers, They lead experiments called "packet-switching" which is a method of transferring data between computers. Cerf and Kahn created guidelines for the transfer of Data in 1980 in California, naming it Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol. 

    The internet was originally created in order to transfer data between computers. Today, it is used to navigate to the websites in order to do whatever you want on the internet. The internet today is instantaneous and used as a second nature. Back when it was first invented, it was a tough experiment that took the smartest people in the world to understand. 

    The World Wide Web, on the other hand, is a "collection of webpages found on this network of computers. Your web browser uses the internet to access the web" (bbc.co.uk). The World Wide Web was invented by Sir Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 at CERN, a European research organization in Geneva, Switzerland. It was originally invented to to meet the demand for "automated information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world" (home.cern). Today, it is a collection of websites all connected to the internet. It can be accessed through softwares programs called "web browsers" which acts as the gateway to any information on any website across the internet. 

    The internet and world wide web work together, but are completely different. The World Wide Web is the pages or websites that you see when using a specific device online. The internet is the "network of connected computers that the web works on, as well as what emails and files travel across"bbc.co.uk). The internet is essentially the roads that connect towns and cities, and the World Wide Web are the houses, shops, and everything you see on that road. 

    The first website was created in 1991, published by Tim Berners-Lee, the same man who invented the World Wide Web. The website was a description of the World Wide Web, basically on how to use and navigate it. The website is still up today and the url is http://info.cern.ch.

Original Photo Analogous Photo Triad Photo Complementary Photo Artist Statement         For this assignment, I first looked through my photo gallery to find interesting photos of me in order to create designs on. I looked through a few, but came across an old photo of myself doing a backflip off of my car in the sand dunes in Rhode Island.   Artist's Statement        Before I began my design in adobe illustrator, I wrote out a letter to my future self, 20 years from now. This took a lot of effort and brainstorming because I had no idea where I would be in 20 years from now. I have a long list of goals and aspirations that I wish to achieve, so I decided to start there. I listed all of my emotional goals, especially those relating to the present time. I do not wish to live my live thinking about my past mistakes or what could happen in the future, I wish to live my life in the present. I am currently struggling with that, so I hope my future self has tackled that problem. I then went into my career goals in real estate and my family goals.   Logos     Above is the finished version of my colored logos design. For this assignment, I thought of my hobbies and interests, just like the other projects I've completed for this class. Obviously, the ocean and surfing are the biggest things that keep me going in life. First, I thought of  incorporating a surfboard into my logo, but I did that for the calligram design so I figured I would steer in a different direction for this design. I am from Rhode Island, a state that I absolutely love considering how happy I am when I am home. An anchor is a big symbol for my home, which means it is a big symbol for me as well. It symbolizes hope, something that I live by everyday. There is always hope that something amazing will happen. I added in some waves as well to give it more detail and to really put an emphasis on my love of the ocean.
